It's a sign of just how significant the new Sportage is for Kia that rather than flying UK journalists to an international launch location the company instead rented a boutique hotel in London's Notting Hill, created a sketch gallery in the basement and flew in key members of the car's development team to meet the press — who were then lent some the first new Sportage's in the UK to test for a month. Koenigsegg, our favorite hard-to-pronounce Swedish supercar manufacturer, got the word on Wednesday that its latest car has broken six world records. The Agera R, which uses a twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V8 engine, sprinted from 0 to 300 kph (186.4 mph) in a Stephen Hawking-impressing 14.53 seconds. For us nonmetric types, the Agera R also went from 0 to 200 mph in 17.68 seconds; both runs were verified with a Racelogic VBox recorder.
The second Global Automotive Forum took place last week in the Jiaozhi international conference center in Chengdu, one of the most important economic and transportation centers in Western China. The two-day event was based around the theme of 'Crossing from Producing to Innovation Country' and was attended by more than 80 people from the global automotive industry. While most of the sessions revolved around the greater automotive industry in China, Car Design News was asked to organize a session of the forum centered on design, which included a 'roundtable meeting' for designers.
